IELTS test procedures in Bangladesh! How is the test being administered?

IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is an English language test adopted by governments of many countries for immigration and overseas study.

IELTS assesses an individual's English listening, reading, writing and speaking skills for university admission, employment and immigration to English-speaking countries.  The IELTS test is jointly owned by the British Council and IDP Bangladesh.

Authorities in the UK,  USA, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and dozens of other countries accept IELTS results. Immigration applicants and students are required to present IELTS test results when applying for and receiving a visa. If required, IELTS scores will vary depending on visa requirements.

There are two main IELTS test systems: 1. IELTS Academic and 2. IELTS General Training. The test that is right for each person will depend on his main goal, that is, studying or working in the country of his choice. There are some key differences between the two test systems.

The IELTS Academic test is designed to assess a candidate’s English language proficiency and measure their suitability for an academic environment such as a university, college or other institution. The Academic test results reflect aspects of academic language and assess whether the individual is prepared to teach or learn English in a foreign country.

The Academic test is suitable for those who wish to study at an undergraduate or postgraduate level in an English-speaking country or work in a professional organization in an English-speaking country.

On the other hand, IELTS General Training is designed to measure  English language proficiency in real-life or everyday situations. Individuals who wish to study abroad, obtain a lower-level degree, work, or immigrate.

The test is generally divided into four sections: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. Test centres are usually located in reputable institutions or language schools in designated areas.

Test takers should arrive at the test location at least 30 minutes before the scheduled test time to ensure that they have time to register. Test takers should follow the instructions carefully and complete the tasks within the allotted time.

The speaking test is administered in a private room by a trained IELTS examiner. Here,  candidates are asked a series of questions and engage in a discussion, which is a discussion on a specific topic called a turn card. The speaking test is recorded to generate the candidate's score.

Candidates are required to follow the rules and regulations of the test centre, such as refraining from using electronic devices or communicating with other candidates. A proctor is present to ensure the integrity of the test and to maintain an overall peaceful environment in the testing room.

Candidates will receive their results within 2-3 weeks of the test date. Results will be sent electronically or by post.
